Simple Things Sunday: week 1, 2013

One of my plans for 2013 is to take more snapshots of my own family. I was so busy in 2012 capturing other family’s moments that I often didn’t feel like picking up the camera in my own house. We did a lot of family shots, because that was a goal I had for 2012---but what I treasure most are the candid everyday shots.

Originally this blog was called In the Common Hours, because that is what I really want to be capturing of my family. There is nothing “common” about the early hours in a newborn’s life though, so now the name is about making it easy for clients to find via Google. Still, I miss the reminder in that title.

Participating in Rebecca Cooper’s Simple Things Sunday is one way to encourage myself to take more candid shots. Rebecca is an amazing photographer & blogger & momma.  Her Simple Things Sunday is a weekly link party capturing a simple moment. I hope to participate at least two Sundays every month. Let me know if you are too!

This is the kind of shot I could easily talk myself out of taking (through the window with some glare, the challenge of a white dog on white snow or that the moment would be over before I got my camera). And I’m so grateful to have it---Duke and Aidan playing in the yard, as they did for hours over break despite the unusually cold temps here in Moab. Aidan thought it hilarious that Duke wanted to pull him on the sled.

Who knew our Labrador could be a sled dog?

  1. It is good, to take snaps. It is easy to get caught up in trying to take the perfect shot!! I am always happy when I take the time to capture the small things going on in our life.

  2. Thanks for stopping by, Laurie. Hope you have a "scintillating" day (I had to look at your post to spell it right!).

  3. I am so glad you took the photo despite the things telling you not to. I adore this photo! It is one to keep and look back on! It makes me giggle. What a great sled dog you have, could you send me some of that snow? thanks. lol

    1. Thanks, LaShawn! I love it too, and would be more than happy to send ALL of this snow and the cold along with it. This is high-desert country--it's not supposed to be this cold!

I love hearing from you!
